Marion Evelyn Marie Blake, 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at 9:27 p.m. at her home in Marion, surrounded by her family. Evelyn was born October 1, 1917 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Knute and Hilda Carlson. She married Roland Blake on December 22, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and he preceded her in death on August 29, 1982. Evelyn worked secretarial positions for College Wooster, Wooster, Ohio. She was the Administrative Secretary for the Lutheran Church of America, Synod Office in Minneapolis, MN. Evelyn retired as an Academic Advisor at Southern Illinois University. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and was an avid bridge player and she would often have lunch with Newcomers Club. Survivors include: Two daughters: Kathryn A. Morgenstern and husband Bradley of Tamaroa Carolyn B. Langan and husband Michael of Marion Seven Grandchildren: Holly Keller Nathan Morgenstern Kara Davison Becky Stroud Andrew & Ian Langan Maren Langan Sister Ann Flood and husband Dale of Belleview, Washington Sister-in-law Florence Carlson of LaPorte, Indiana Preceded by Parents, Husband, Roland and Brother, Edmund Carlson. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 18, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Marlin Otte officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service on Saturday. Burial will be Saturday in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, DuQuoin at 2:30 P.M. with Rev. Steve Quinn officiating. For those who prefer memorials may be made to the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.
