Everett Henshaw, Jr.

Everett Henshaw, Jr., 82, of Carterville, formerly of Marion, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 4:15 pm at Heartland Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. “Junior” was born May 15, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Everett, Sr. & Edith (Hogue) Henshaw. He married Connie Fetters on July 29, 1983 in Marion and together they have shared over 33 years of marriage. “Junior” served in the US Army, working in the White House Secret Service under President Dwight D. Eisenhauer from 1958 – 1960. He returned home joining his father in the family trucking business, Henshaw Wholesale Lumber and Grain, later becoming owner/operator.  He retired as an over the road truck driver in 2010. He was a member of Second Baptist Church of Marion. In addition to his wife, Connie he is survived by his; Four children; Sue Frey Strothmann and husband Gary of Carterville Joyce Cato of Marion Kip Mandrell and wife Eva of Grayslake Nikki Meracle of Florrisant, Missouri Grandchildren; Alexandria Frey of Carterville Daniel Frey of Carterville Stacy Cato of Marion Nicki Holmes (Toby) of Kingsland, Georgia Jessica Mandrell of Steelville Errol Mandrell of Seattle, Washington Chelsey Meracle of Fenton, Missouri Blake Meracle of Florrisant, Missouri Bryce Meracle of West Frankfort Zachary Maxwell of Belfair, Washington Alexa Maxwell of Grayslake Great Grandchildren; Walter Nieds, IV of Carterville Tobias Phinney of Marion River & Brooks Holmes of Kingsland, Georgia Sister – Mary Sue Childers of Marion Brother-in-law – Dean Rose of Marion Sister-in-law – Arna White of Marion Sister-in-law – Sandy Tobin and husband Ron of Plankinton, South Dakota Brother-in-law – Kevin Fetters and wife Leigh Ann of Rosebud Several nieces, nephews and cousins Preceded by his Parents, grandson – Jacob Vaughn Cato, sister – Priscilla Presley, sister – Betty Rose. Graveside services will be Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 1 pm at Rose Hill Cemetery with Dr. Bob Wagner officiating. Military rites will be presented by members of the V.F.W. Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Detail Unit. Followed by a Celebration of Life memorial service at 2 pm at Celebrations Event Center, 1305 Crane Drive in Marion (formerly the Marion Golf Course and Clubhouse).  Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements. For those who prefer memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
