Fern Long

Fern Long, 76, of Marion, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 1:30 pm at Herrin Hospital. Fern was born November 20, 1937 in Paulton the daughter of Raymond Henry and Maude Mae (Walker) Dawson.  She married Edward L. Long in Pittsburg and he preceded her in death in 1991. She was a homemaker and attended Walnut Hill Baptist Church.  Fern was a loving grandmother, a giving, and caring woman, always putting others first.    She enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia. Survivors include her; Grandson – Brandon E. Long of rural Marion Granddaughter – Alyssa E. Long of rural Marion Daughter-in-law – Valerie E. Long of rural Marion Twin-sister – Elma Mae “Faye” Furlong of Marion Sister – Martha June Burns of Marion Brother- Bobbie Joe Dawson of Harrisburg Several nieces and nephews Preceded by her Parents, Husband – Edward, and Son – Eddie Long. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 11 am at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Ivan Ryan officiating.  Burial will follow in Egyptian Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
