Herrin- Floyd "Dude" Hicks, Jr., 84, of Herrin died at 8:34 AM, Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Floyd was born on January 26, 1919 in Herrin to Floyd Thomas Hicks, Sr. & Lora (Council) Hicks. He married Nola Walker on Christmas Day 1938 in Cape Girardeau, MO. She survives of Herrin.
Dude worked at Brewster Motors in Herrin for 20 years prior to his retirement from Maytag, where he worked as a security guard.
Floyd was of protestant faith. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and a 55-year member of the Herrin VFW & American Legion as well as an Alderman in Ward 3 in Herrin for 16 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son; Jerry Lynn Hicks, two brothers, and one sister.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. The Herrin VFW & American Legion Posts will perform military rites at the graveside. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
