Marion-Floyd Shorty Switzer-66, died 4:30 A.M., Monday, March 8, 2004 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Shorty was born June 28, 1937 in Herrin, Illinois to Jesse & Mary (Orr) Switzer. He married Gertrude (Killman) Switzer on December 21, 1957 in Energy, Illinois. She survives. He retired from CIPS in 1999 with 39 years of service where he worked with the gas utility division as a lead man. He was a member of IBEW local #702 and the Herrin Elks. He was also member of the Heartland Bass Club and the Crab Orchard Lake Bass Club. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. He loved spending time with his grandsons. Survivors Include Wife: Gertrude Switzer of Marion Son: Jim Switzer of Herrin Daughter & Son In Law: Patti & Jim Higbee of Simla, CO. Two Grandsons: Jeremy Edmunds of Marion Jesse James Switzer of Herrin Twin Brother & Sister In Law: Loyd & Marie Switzer of Herrin Brother: Raymond Switzer of Herrin Two Sisters: Alice Mays of Herrin Linda Dew of Vandalia, IL. Also survived by several nieces & nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lawrence & Hubert Switzer, three sisters, Mae Parola, Grace Kelley, and Judy Mays. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 12, 2004 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Emery & Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery.
