Frances Jane (Calliss) Hamilton-Calcaterra

Herrin- Frances Jane Calcaterra, 96, of Herrin passed away at 10:16 AM, Monday, September 18, 2017 at Herrin Hospital. She was born on September 8, 1921 in Herrin to Otis and Christine (Hall) Calliss. She graduated from Herrin High School in 1941. She was married to Jack Hamilton from 1948-1960. She later married William “Bill” Calcaterra on April 15, 1978 in Herrin. They were married for 32 years until Bill passed on January 22, 2010. Frances worked as a shipping supervisor at Smoler Brothers in Herrin for twenty years until her retirement. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin and served as President Regent of the Daughters of Isabella for several years and also volunteered for other activities around the church. Frances was also civically active as she delivered food to others through Meals on Wheels and worked many hours at the Herrin Food Pantry, Williamson County Child Advocacy Center and the Herrinfesta Gift Shop. In her spare time, she enjoyed travelling, reading, working word puzzles, watching old Westerns and volunteering her time. Most importantly, she had a great love for her family and friends. Frances was loved and respected by all who knew her. She will be truly missed. Survivors include- Daughter- Jo Donna and Kim Van Keeken of Limmen, Netherlands Son- Neal Hamilton and wife Sandy of Paducah, KY Daughter- Eva Benns and husband Paul of Herrin Daughter- Janet Hamilton of Herrin Grandchildren: Tony and Agnes Jackson of Orfordville, WI Aimee and Eric Braun of Red Bud Melissa and Scott Borders of Ft. Campbell, KY Alexis and Gus Stallman of Murphysboro Ian and Alissa Hamilton of Murphysboro Great Grandchildren: Trisha and Isaac Sneed Ethan Benns Madison and Grace Borders Benjamin and Milo Jackson Coreynne Stallman, Eva Braun and Gwendolyn Hamilton Great Great grandchild due in November- Maximillian Sneed Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter- Janie Lou Hamilton, brothers- Wendall and William “Bill” Calliss and grandson- Corey Hamilton. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 22, 2017 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until time of service, Friday, at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
