Marion- Frank H. Simmons, 82, of Coffeen, IL formerly of Marion, died at 5:05 A.M., Monday, January 21, 2002 at Marion Memorial Hospital.
Frank was born on November 19, 1919 in Marion to I.E. & Lillie Ann (Alsip) Simmons. He married Venita Buckles on June 28, 1940 in Marion. She preceded him in death on October 3, 1990. Frank married Maria DeLaby on September 12, 1971 in Hillsboro, IL. She survives of Coffeen. They were married for thirty years.
He was a coal miner, working first at Union Colliery and later as mechanic foreman for Consolidated Coal in Hillsboro from which he retired in 1983. Frank enjoyed bird hunting, but his favorite hobby was golf. He was a member of Indian Springs Golf Course and a former member of Hillsboro Country Club. Such was his love for golf that he took his son Frank, Jr. to play the old course at St. Andrews in Scotland.
He was a veteran, having served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He was a member of VFW Post #1306 of Taylor Springs, IL. Frank was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #51 AF & AM in Hillsboro, IL. He was also a member of the Shrine Lodge of Springfield, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, five brothers; Delbert, Glenn, James, Hollie, & Clifford Simmons, and one sister; Nellie Simmons.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 22, 2002 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Rev. Ron Henwood will officiate. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed at the grave by the Marion VFW & American Legion Post #1301. Visitation will be held Tuesday at the funeral home from 5:00-9:00 PM. Masonic Rites will be performed at 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
