HerrinFranklin Red J. Laswell , 83, of Herrin, passed away at 3:10 PM, Friday, September 21, 2013 at Herrin Hospital.
He was born September 13, 1929 in West Frankfort, Illinois to Theodore and Edna (Buskill) Laswell. They preceded him in death.
Red served in the Navy from 1948-1950, and the Army from 1952-1954. He was a member of the American Legion, and a lifelong member of the VFW.
He worked at Norge (Maytag) for 40 years as a fork lift operator until he retired in 1991. Red enjoyed having coffee with his friends at McDonalds and the Burger Nook.
He is survived by his Cousins, Karen Bauernfeind of Herrin, Illinois and Ann Minckler of Makanda, Illinois; Good Friend, Jim Dickerson of Herrin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his Aunt Charlotte Mae & Uncle Noble Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will be officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Murphysboro, Illinois with military rites provided by the Herrin VFW and American Legion Posts and the Illinois National Guard. Visitation will precede the funeral service starting at 9:00 AM at the funeral home and lasting until the service hour.
Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois- Blue West Team VFW, or the American Legion and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St. / Herrin, IL 62948.
