Herrin - Frank "Shorty" Moroni, 96, died at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at Herrin Hospital.
Mr. Moroni was born May 5, 1906 in Marion to Louis and Santina (Rocassi) Moroni.
He married Lura Bloodworth August 19, 1936 in Benton, IL. She survives.
Mr. Moroni was Superintendent of the Street and Alley Department for 9 years He retired in 1979. . He also worked at Kathline Mine, Lee Potter Smith Associates as a bid inspector and Norge Company. He helped build the Al-Can Highway. He also helped build the Atomic Energy Plant in Oak Ridge, TN. His career centered around iron working and construction. He attended the Alton Military Academy on a football scholarship and Brown's Business College in Marion.
He was a member of the Catholic Faith He played semi-professional baseball as a catcher and shortstop for the Marion Red Birds. He loved to fish, hunt and dance.

His parents, one son, Charles, two brothers, Joe Moroni and Louis Moroni, Jr. and
One nephew, Michael Moroni preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2002 at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Msg. Ken Schaefer will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 26 at the funeral home. Entombment will be at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin, IL
