Frank Sponza, 93, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at 3:46 A.M. at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Frank was born May 13, 1914 the son of Andrew & Francis (Zuarantto) Sponza in Chicago. He married June Chitty on August 26, 1957 in Chicago and together they have shared over 50 years of marriage, she survives in Marion.
Frank retired in 1979 from GTE where he had been a machinist for over 50 years. He was a WWII Army veteran, serving during the Normandy campaign under General Patton. For his brave service he received several decorations including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor James Mayer officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be presented by Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Unit. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
