Gail Ellen Read

Gail Ellen (Padderud) Read, 69, of Creal Springs, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 1:49 pm at Carbondale Memorial Hospital. Gail was born August 17, 1946 in Chicago the daughter of Earl and Lorraine (Flood) Padderud. She studied for two years at Ripon College in Wisconsin and later lived in Arlington Heights and Wauconda, IL before moving to Marion and later Creal Springs.  She married Fred R. Read, Jr. on April 13, 2010. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and a life member of the Marion VFW Post #1301. Gail was a homemaker who did extensive volunteer work, most notably as a coordinator and driver for Meals on Wheels. She later started a photo and video editing business doing photo enhancement work for local police departments and the FBI. Gail is survived by her Husband – Fred R. Read, Jr. of Creal Springs Son – David Drewes and wife Kristin of Winnipeg, Canada Son – Timothy Drewes of Los Angeles, California Grandchild – Dorothy Drewes of Winnipeg, Canada Step son – Matthew Read and wife Lisa of Kirkland, Illinois Step grandchildren:  Daniel and Colin Read Sister – Karen Illing of Chicago Former husnad –Roger Drewes of Prescott, AZ Preceded by her Parents and former husband William E. “Bill” McCratic Funeral services will be Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 12 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Her son David Drewes will give the eulogy and members of the VFW Post #1301 Ladies Auxiliary will assist in the service.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday from 10 am until the time of service at the funeral home. For those who prefer, memorials may be made to TAV (This Able Veteran) or the Marion VFW/American Legion Ritual Team.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
