Garland L. Smith

Garland Lewis Smith, age 67 of Pittsburg, died at 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 19th, 2001 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Visitation for Mr. Smith was from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral service on Wednesday, May 23rd at 2:00 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes, with burial following at Number 8 Cemetery in Pittsburg. Rev. Don Colson officiated. Mr.Smith was born December 29, 1933 in Pittsburg, the son of George F. & Stella Ann (Conley) Smith. Both parents preceded him in death. Mr. Smith was never married. He was disabled. He is survived by two sisters, Dorothy E. Varner Jones of Pittsburg and Edna L. Stone Howell of Marion; one aunt, Louise Conley of Creal Springs, seven nephews, Jackie R. Jones & George L. Jones, both of Pittsburg, Sergeant Shannon L. Jones of Colorado, Cleman Gene Stone and Victor Stone, both of Marion, Leslie Stone Jr. of Rockford, Danny Stone of West Frankfort; ten nieces, Brenda (& Bud) Wedding, Eva Vojvodich, Lela Kay Jones, Sandra (& Larry) Long, all of Johnston City, Dorothy & Donnie Odum of Kentucky, Shirley Hill of Carterville, Josephine Varner, Karen (& George) Bush, all of Herrin; and Judy (& Walter) Holmes of Ledford, and Sherri Clendenin of Marion. He is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was preceded by three infant brothers and his sisters, Maggie Mae Smith, Thelma Cloteen Patterson, and Lela Marie Cockran.
