Carterville- GARY DALE GREATHOUSE, age 68, of Carterville, passed away at 5:25am on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at his home in Carterville.
Gary was born in Clifford, IL on June 13, 1939 the son of Edward Dale and Lela (Whitecotton) Greathouse. He married Betty Chitwood in Zeigler on August 24, 1957. Together, they have shared fifty years of marriage. Betty survives in Carterville.
Mr. Greathouse was a retired coal miner for Old Ben and General Chemical in Wyoming. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the United Steel Workers Association. Gary served in the Army National Guard from 1957-1961.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, one brother- Paul Greathouse; one grandson- Don Lee Greathouse, Jr.; and one great grandson- James Robert Greathouse, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, with Rev. Rob Chitwood officiating. Burial will follow at McKinney Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-9pm on Friday, November 16, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
