Gary D. Greathouse

Carterville- GARY DALE GREATHOUSE, age 68, of Carterville, passed away at 5:25am on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at his home in Carterville. Gary was born in Clifford, IL on June 13, 1939 the son of Edward Dale and Lela (Whitecotton) Greathouse. He married Betty Chitwood in Zeigler on August 24, 1957. Together, they have shared fifty years of marriage. Betty survives in Carterville. Mr. Greathouse was a retired coal miner for Old Ben and General Chemical in Wyoming. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the United Steel Workers Association. Gary served in the Army National Guard from 1957-1961. Vernon, IL Daughter- Patricia and Kevin Campbell of Clifton Springs, NY Thirteen Grandchildren- John and Kelly Greathouse of Zeigler, IL Donelle and Scott Wiggs of Herrin, IL Jennifer Dobbins of Zeigler, IL Kevin and Jade Greathouse of West Frankfort, IL Matt and Michelle Greathouse of Christopher, IL Lee Edward Greathouse of Carbondale, IL Brittney Greathouse of Zeigler, IL Will and Mary Greathouse of Columbia, IL James and Jodi Greathouse of Manila, Ark Amanda Greathouse of Dupo, IL Tara Greathouse of Waterloo, IL Kaleb Greathouse of Waterloo, IL Beth and Chuck Hanner of Stiritz, IL Great Grandchildren- Twenty and four on the way Brother- David Greathouse of Pittsburg, IL Sister- Lois and Robert Cremeens of Carterville, IL Several nieces, nephews, and cousins Gary was preceded in death by his parents, one brother- Paul Greathouse; one grandson- Don Lee Greathouse, Jr.; and one great grandson- James Robert Greathouse, Jr. Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, with Rev. Rob Chitwood officiating. Burial will follow at McKinney Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-9pm on Friday, November 16, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
