Gary D. Stone

Herrin- Gary D. Stone, 54, of Herrin, passed away at 6:05 AM, Sunday, August 1, 2010 at his home. Gary was born on November 30, 1955 in St. Louis, MO to James & Georgia (Kennedy) Stone. He married Nancy Jacobs on May 5, 1974 in Energy. She survives of Herrin. He was a veteran of the US Army and served from 1974 until his honorable discharge in 1977. Once discharged, he worked in construction and for Sheller-Globe. Gary made an impact on a lot of lives and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include- Wife- Nancy Stone of Herrin Son- Jeff Stone & wife Angie of Carbondale Son- Ryan Stone of Herrin Daughter- Christina Stone of Herrin Grandchildren- Cortney, Justin & Hailey Stone Brother- Randy Stone of Marion Brother- Mike Withworth of Kentucky Several brothers in law and sisters in law He was preceded in death by his parents, son- Derrick Stone and one sister- Sherry Wilborn. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Scott Kelley will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the Herrin VFW and American Legion Posts with assistance from the Illinois National Guard. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until time of service, Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to TIP Hospice or the Marion VA Hospital and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948.
