Marion- Geneva Margaret Stahlhut, age 97, of Marion, passed away at 12:17am on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Angel Acres in Marion.
Geneva was born in Marion on January 14, 1916, the daughter of Clara (Uhley) and Arthur C.B. Fries. She married Walter Fred Stahlhut in Marion on December 25, 1938. They shared fifty-seven years of marriage, until his passing on December 31, 1995.
Geneva attended Browns Business College and had worked as a clerk for Woolworth’s Dime Store and Albright’s Men’s Store, from which she retired.
Mrs. Stahlhut was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Marion where she served on the Benevolence Committee and stayed involved by organizing funeral dinners and other social gatherings for many years.
Geneva was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law- Carol Ann and Charles Parton of Marion; Son and daughter-in-law- Ronald W. and Denise Stahlhut of Vincennes, IN; Five grandchildren- Ronald Dee and Diane Stahlhut, Randy and Kathy Parton , Scott Stahlhut, Rhonda Parton, Jonathon and Laura Stahlhut; Sister- Arlene Hertlein of Elgin, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters- Elsie Kobar and Nadine Robinson, brothers- Leon, Wilbert, and Arthur E. Fries.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the Zion United Church of Christ in Marion with Rev. John Holst officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until time of services at the church on Wednesday. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with final arrangements.
