Carbondale- GENEVA CELESTE PEEBLES, age 84, formerly of Herrin, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at her home in Littleton, Colorado. Geneva was born in Herrin, Illinois on September 20, 1923, the daughter of Harry and Jennie (Brusatti) Calcaterra. She married Caswell Eugene Peebles on June 8, 1946 in Washington D.C. and together they danced their way through 61 years of marriage. Mrs. Peebles attended the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Carbondale for many years, was a graduate of Southern Illinois University and was actively involved in the University for many years. She was preceded in death by her mother and father. Survivors include her husband- Caswell Eugene Peebles, formerly of Pittsburg and Carbondale, IL, now residing in Littleton Colorado Sister - Donna Crisio of Belleville, IL Daughter Janis Johnson of Littleton, CO Two sons: Jim Peebles of Long Beach, CA, and Gene Peebles of Palm Springs, CA Four grandchildren: Casey Johnson of Ventura, CA Rex Johnson of Littleton, CO Susan and Janis Peebles of Long Beach, CA One great grandchild Melinda Johnson of Littleton, CO Visitation will be held from 5-8pm (Rosary at 5pm) on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, January 18, 2008 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Father Flannery from St. Francis Catholic Church of Carbondale will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Carlo Cemetery. A reception hosted by Our Lady of Mount Carmel will follow the burial. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Palm Springs Desert Hospital of California and Vista Care Hospice of Colorado for their excellent care and many kindnesses in recent weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local Diabetes Foundation or Vista Care Hospice.
