Genon Meneese

GENON MENEESE Herrin- GENON MENEESE, age 85, of Herrin, passed away at 7:25am on Friday, May 22, 2009 at Herrin Hospital. Lorine Genon was born in Herrin on June 28, 1923, the daughter of Andy and Lela (Jackson) Gosnell. She married William F. Bill Meneese in Jackson, Mississippi on January 9, 1943. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1997. Genon was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Herrin. She sang in the choir and was active on numerous committees. She volunteered at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Genon was also a member of the Eastern Star. She was a retired cook for West Side and South Side School, serving South Side for more than seventeen years. She also worked at Norge and Olin. Survivors include: Son and daughter-in-law- William Brad and Jan Meneese of Birmingham, AL Sister- Mary Ottolini of Herrin, IL Special Niece- JoAnn and Johnny Lucas of Herrin, IL Special Cousin- Helen Fitzgerald of Herrin, IL She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters- Mildred Nielsen and Betty Appleton. Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with the Rev. Ed Hoke officiating. Burial will follow at Meneese Cemetery in Goreville.
