George B. Sims

Marion- GEORGE B SIMS, of Marion, passed away at 6:35 AM on the morning of Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Carrier Mills Nursing Home George was born on February 5, 1924 in Sullivan County, Indiana to D.B. and Mildred (Faulk) Sims. He married Marjory Cornett on April 1, 1944 in Linton, IN. She survives of Marion. George was a WWII Navy veteran who served his nation bravely as a gunner on a Navy LST in the Philippines and other fronts. Once stateside he worked as a drag line operator at Peabody Coal. He worked forty two years in the coal mines. He was an active member of Marion First United Methodist Church and enjoyed coaching youth baseball and soccer. He was a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and the UMWA. Survivors include- Wife- Marjory Sims of Marion Son- Gregory B. Sims of Rockford He was preceded in death by his parents. Due to family health issues, there will not be any public funeral service. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with final arrangements.
