HERRIN George Barnich, Jr., age 79, of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Herrin, passed away peacefully at 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, FL as the result of pancreatic cancer.
George was born June 15, 1928 in Buckner, IL, the son of George and Mary (Oyston) Barnich.
George served in the 11th Airborne with the U.S. Army during WWII, discharged in 1947 as a Technician-5th Grade. He was also a retired electrician with I.B.E.W. Chicago.
In 1948, he married Genevieve Wiggins and is survived by one daughter and two sons, Rochelle Barnich of Chicago, IL, Terry Barnich of Chicago, IL and Bruce Barnich of Berkeley, IL.
Georges hobbies included traveling, golfing, playing the saxophone, working on his computer and electronics, and spending much time with family and friends.
He married Lovean Ferrari-Klein on March 15, 1994 in Ft. Myers, FL. He is survived by Lovean and four step-children. Gayle Wolff and Carol Ferrari both of Herrin, IL, R. Keith Ferrari of Naples, FL, and Patricia Ferrari-Janszky of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He is also survived by two sisters, Carole Ann Bernacchi, of Schaumburg, IL and Doris Jean Mand of Buckner, IL, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandsons and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, October 26, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, with Rev. Brent Fitzgerald officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Royalton Catholic Cemetery in Royalton.
