Marion- George L. Miller, age 100, of Marion, passed away at 3:55pm on Sunday,
August 24, 2008, at St. Anthony Hospital in Denver, CO with family by his side.
George was born on April 12, 1908, in Marion, IL to Walter Oscar and Fannie E.
(Simpson) Miller. He was united in marriage to Virginia Louise Powless on
Dec. 14, 1935, in Murphysboro, IL. They shared forty-one years of marriage
until her death on September 14, 1977.
George was a faithful employee of E. Blankenship & Co. of Southern Illinois
for 62 years. He was a successful manager of several E. Blankenship stores, spending the majority of his career in Benton. He retired in 1973 and continued working for
the company whenever they needed him until his late 80's, always enjoying the camaraderie with his friends. He was
very proud to be the oldest lifetime member of the BPOE Lodge No. 800 of Marion Elks. George was always conscious of being honest, treating others with respect & doing what was right with all people. He was very proud of his family, his friends, especially his new friends at Parkway Estates and for being blessed to live 100 years. He was of the Christian faith.
He is survived by two sons -- Alan Miller of Harrisburg, IL; Michael B. Miller of Harrisburg; Two daughters and sons-in-law --Sue E. & Bill Hendricks of Evergreen, CO; Pat & Bayne Yarbrough of Collierville, TN;
one granddaughter -- Valerie Miller of Sarasota, FL; two grandsons -- Greg Miller of Marion and Adam Miller of Louisville, KY;
two sisters-in-law and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers- Ben, John, Lloyd and one sister- Lois.
The funeral service for George L. Miller will be at 1:00pm on Friday, August 29, 2008 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in
Marion, with Mr. Wayne Meracle and Rev. Robert Nolan officiating. Burial will
follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to l
p.m. at the funeral home on Friday.
