George Roy Owen, 82, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 4 A.M. at Marion Rehab.
George was born May 12, 1929 in Saline County the son of Louis and Ruby (Futch) Owen. He married Jeannette Merrell on August 5, 1950 in Harrisburg; together they shared over 34 years of marriage. Two children were born to this union, James Keith and Sue. Jeannette preceded him in death on August 28, 1984. He later married Marge Howe on May 18, 2002 in Marion and she survives.
He was Army veteran proudly answering the call to serve his country during the Korean Conflict. George retired from Peabody Amax mines where he had operated the washer. He was a member of Center Baptist Church, and the United Mine Workers of America.

Sister-in-law Bernice Owen of Carrier Mills
Several nieces and nephews
Preceded by his Parents, First Wife Jeanette, Brother Clifford Owen and Sister Barbara Barnhill.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Noon at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Poordo. Military rites will be presented by members of Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Flag Detail Unit. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.
