Herrin-George Steinmetz, 61, completed his transition from this life to his eternal home with Jesus Christ at 8:50 A.M., Sunday, July 27, 2003 at his home in Herrin surrounded by his loving family.
George was born January 7, 1942 in Herrin to James Sylvester & Marie (Vickery) Steinmetz.
He married Ruth Sisk on January 7, 1961 in Johnston City. Ruth survives.
He was a retired coal miner having worked at Rend Lake Consol Mine in Sesser. He also worked at Old Ben # 25 West Frankfort. He previously worked at Allen Industries in Herrin for 13 years.
He was a member of Word of Life Church in Herrin. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Also survived by several nieces, nephews and close friends Leo Porritt and Leslie Hunt.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 9:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 29th at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Memories of George will be shared at 6:00 P.M. with a memorial service. Friends are asked to write a special memory of George that will be collected at the register desk.
