Marion Gertie Caroline Craig, 92, of Marion, formerly of Johnson County, passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at 10:05 A.M. at her home in Marion.
Gertie was born September 4, 1915 in Tunnel Hill the daughter of Charles Edward & Nancy T. (Webb) Lamphere. She married William Dowell Craig on July 1, 1933 in Goreville and he preceded her in death on September 4, 1974.
Gertie was a member of Parish Park Baptist Church and worked in the nursery. She enjoyed spending time with the ladies in her Sunday school class and baking cookies every year for vacation Bible school.
She retired in 1983 from SIU Food Service after 20 years of service. She formerly worked in area orchards as a child and then on the condenser line at Sangamo Electric.
After her retirement, Gertie, traveled extensively across the United States and Canada. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting and crocheting scrubbies.

Preceded by Her parents, Husband William, daughters- Diane Craig & Wanda Collins, grandchildren- Dennis Craig, Kenna Jo Garrison & Darrell Roberts, great grandchild- Sydney Carrey, brothers John, James, Bill and Charlie Lamphere and Sisters - Elsie Pearce and Sarah Dowdy.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Shorty Alsip officiating. Burial will follow in Busby Cemetery in Goreville. Visitation will be from 5-9:00 PM, Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the funeral home.
Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
