Gertrude Giese

Herrin- GERTRUDE GIESE, age 87, passed away at 12:45am on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Gertrude was born in Beech Creek, KY, on November 11, 1921, the daughter of Howard and Ollie (Murphy) Wright. She married Charles R. Giese on March 9, 1968 in Geneva, IL. They shared thirty-four years of marriage, until his death on February 6, 2003. Mrs. Giese was a member of the Park Avenue Church of God in Herrin. She worked for the State of Illinois as a dietician at the Elgin Mental Health Center. Gertrude was an avid walker. She enjoyed mall walking at the Illinois Centre Mall and spending time with her cherished family and friends. Survivors include- One Son- David Giese of St. Charles, IL Three Daughters- Sheryl Soderdahl of St. Charles, IL Virginia Hazelett of St. Charles, IL Linda and Douglas Foster of Coarse Gold, CA Ten Grandchildren Eleven Great Grandchildren Special cousins- Betty and Billy Bob Helms of Herrin, IL Joyce Fisher of Herrin, IL Loretta Maxey of Herrin, IL Maxine Cornelius of Herrin, IL Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, her husband-Charles, her son-in-law- Thomas Hazelett, and her grandparents- Bette and John Murphy. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, February 6, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. J.K. Tiffin officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9-11am on Friday, February 6, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
