Gertrude “Joyce” Cornwell, 67, of Goreville, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 7:55 pm at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Joyce was born January 26, 1950 the daughter of Mondel and Helen (Richards) Mixon in Charleston, South Carolina. She married Steven Cornwell on December 27, 1968 in Charleston, South Carolina and would have celebrated 49 years of marriage next month.
Joyce loved her God and her family. Her special interest was for Husband and Sons. Her daughter-in-law and grandson became a great part of that specialness. She enjoyed keeping up with everyone on Facebook as it connected her with all of those she did not get to see very often.
Survivors include her;
Husband – Steven Cornwell, Sr. of Goreville
Two sons;
Phillip Cornwell and wife Becky of Houston, Texas
Timothy Cornwell of Goreville
Grandson – Merric Garcia of Houston, Texas
Seven brothers;
Jack Cutter, Chris Cutter, Walter Gehlken, Ronald Gehlken, Donald Gehlken, Robert Mixon and Chris Mixon
Four sisters;
Patty Gehlken Bell, Sybil Mixon, Debbie Mixon DeShane and Donna Mixon Cook
Preceded by her Parents, Son – Steven “Paul” Cornwell, Jr., three brothers – Jimmy Mixon, Joseph Cutter, Kenny Mixon and sister – Kim Gehlken.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 17, 2017 at 11 am at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. George Needham officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
