Gladys I. Leeper

Herrin- GLADYS IONE LEEPER, age 88, of Herrin, passed away at 9:45am on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at her residence. Gladys was born in West Frankfort, Illinois on January 24, 1920, the daughter of Burke and Daisy (Campbell) Jeralds. She married Harold E. Leeper in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on October 22, 1941. They shared fifty years of marriage, until his death on June 28, 1992. Mrs. Leeper was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Herrin where she enjoyed Sunday School class and the Joy group meetings. She was very devoted and dedicated to her church. Gladys loved to travel, but most of all, she loved her family and loved life itself. She was a member of the Hurricane Cemetery Board and the Herrin Food Pantry Board. Gladys retired from General Foods in Chicago, where she was employed as a Bio-Chemist for thirty years. Survivors include two brothers- Clell and Jean Jeralds of Elkville, IL Rex and Jeanne Jeralds of Carterville, IL Several Nieces and Nephews Many Great Nieces and Nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband- Harold, one infant son, and three brothers- Charles, Clifton, and Frankie Jeralds. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Gladys special caregivers, including her brother- Rex, two nieces- Diana Wade and Cyndi Stucker, great nephew- Matthew Geistdorfer, and special friends Murl Crabtree and Ruth Godin. Your care was greatly appreciated. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 6, 2008 at Johnson- Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Brad Harlow and Dr. Jerry Ford will officiate. Burial will follow at Hurricane Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-9pm on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Hurricane Cemetery, Second Baptist Church of Herrin, or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
