Gladys L. Jones

Herrin- Gladys Lucille Jones, 88, of Herrin, passed away peacefully at 2:40 AM, Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at her home with her family by her side. She was born on January 19, 1918 in Herrin to Rollie & Nora (Phillips) Bird. She married Robert Jones on September 19, 1936 in Murphysboro. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1975. Mrs. Jones worked as a clerk for Rexall Drug and then Sav-A-Lot in Herrin for many years prior to her retirement. She was a volunteer for more than twenty years at the Herrin Hospital Gift Shop with the Hospital Ladies Auxiliary Club. Gladys was one of the founding members of the Herrin Food Pantry and an active member of Hurricane Memorial Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school and was dedicated to the church tape ministry for those sick or shut in. SURVIVORS: Daughter & Son in law- Ruth Ann & Otis Calliss- Herrin Son & Daughter in law- John & Donna Jones- Herrin Daughter in law- Mary Jane Jones- Herrin Seven Grandchildren: Michele Schneider & husband Bill- Springfield, IL Susan Griffith & husband Dax- Laquey, MO Amy Calliss- Herrin Leanne Johnson & husband Tim- Herrin Alison Grant & husband Kyle- Carterville Robert Jones & wife Jennifer- Beaver Falls, PA Sheila Kingston & husband Brian- Johnston City Fifteen Great Grandchildren Many nieces & nephews & great nieces & nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son; Terry Jones, four sisters and one brother. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Dr. Randy Grace will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to Hurricane Memorial Baptist Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
