Herrin- Glenda Lou Tippy, 78, of Herrin, passed away at 11:25 AM, Monday, September 21, 2015 with her family by her side. She was born on December 11, 1936 in Herrin to Lucius and Frieda (Neiber) Shepard. She married Jerry Dean Tippy on March 18, 1955 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2014. Glenda was a hardworking woman who throughout her career worked in many places. She was a secretary for Olin Matheson in the Ordill area, an assistant to the Williamson County Circuit Clerk and was a tour guide for Presley Tours for several years. Despite working many hours, she was a caring mother, beautiful woman with great style and grace talented homemaker who was well known for her fried chicken. She enjoyed travelling with her family to different locations and playing bingo with friends. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. Survivors include- Daughter- Jerri Lynn Charlet and husband Charles of Herrin Daughter- Jami Lou Hampton and husband Jerry of Carterville Sister in law- Ibbie Jean (Tippy) Boren and husband Thomas C. of Herrin 6 grandchildren: Charles Dean Charlet and wife Heather of Herrin Kerry Lynn Charlet and wife Amy of Herrin Jared Lee Charlet of Herrin David May of Carterville Jessie May of Carterville Megan Hampton of Carterville 8 loving great grandchildren Half-brother- Rex Stallons of Herrin Half-sister- Lisa Martin of Zeigler She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son- Darrell Scott Tippy, grandson- Lance Corporal Chad Len Charlet, two sisters- Pat Owens and Donna Schum and one infant brother- David Shepard. It was Glenda’s wish to be cremated and inurned with her husband, Jerry Dean Tippy, in Herrin City Cemetery. A private memorial service will be officiated by Rev. Bill Wiggs. Memorial and cremation services were arranged at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St. / Herrin, IL 62948.
