Herrin- GREGORY RALPH BOREN, age 59, of Herrin, passed away at 7:55pm on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at his home in Herrin.
Gregory was born in Streator, IL on September 14, 1951, the son of Barney and Joyce (Jones) Boren. He married Margaret Graves in Herrin on November 8, 1974. She survives in Herrin.
Mr. Boren worked as the Youth Supervisor #3 at the Illinois Youth Correction Center in Harrisburg. He was the first person elected as a write in candidate for the 59th District and served as the Deputy District Governor for the Republican Party for ten years. Gregory was the youngest elected precinct committeeman in the state of Illinois, at the young age of 18. He was a former member of the Herrin Jaycees before it dissolved. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Herrin.

Uncle- Bobby Jones of Johnston City, IL
Mother-in-law- Giesela Rilk of Marion, IL
Brother-in-law- Truman E Groves of Las Vegas, Nevada
Sister-in-law- Karin Grimes and family
Nephew- Scott Grimes and family
Niece- Sonya Royer and family
He was preceded in death by his parents and his aunt- Grace Nielson.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Ron Henwood officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
