Carterville- George Gregory Marlow, 57, of Carterville, died at 8:15 PM, Thursday, May 10, 2007 at his home in Carterville. Gregory was born on October 24, 1949 in Herrin to George J. & Phyllis (Parigi) Marlow, Jr. Gregory was a graduate of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and was a member of the Kappa Psi fraternity. He was a pharmacist for the last four years at Herrin Kroger and for twenty years prior to that at the Chester Mental Health Center. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing and lifting weights. He played keyboards for a number of area bands including, Free Wheelin and Jades. He was a two time cancer survivor and participated in area Relay for Life events. Gregory was a spiritual person. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, but more recently attended the First Church of God in Marion. SURVIVORS: Mother- Phyllis Marlow of Herrin Brother & sister in law- Jeff & Judy Marlow of Ballwin, MO Sister & brother in law- Kelly & Dr. Christopher Hughes of Herrin Nephew- Dominic Jon Marlow of Carbondale Nieces- Rebecca & Rachel Marlow of Herrin Nieces- Marlo & Sofia Hughes of Herrin Nephews- Garin & Sam Marlow of Ballwin, MO Great Nieces & nephews- Dalton Rothchild & Sway Wooldridge Dylan Cripps & Matthew King Many close friends and colleagues He was preceded in death by his father, brother- Chris Marlow, and infant nephew- Michael Anthony Hughes. He will be inurned next to his brother at San Carlo Cemetery during a private graveside service that will be held at a later date. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Johnson-Hughes Funeral in Herrin has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the OLMC/ St. Marys Education Foundation or the Marion First Church of God/ Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
