Herrin- Grover Lavern (G.L.) Thornton, 80, of Herrin, died at 3:05 PM, Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Herrin Hospital.
Mr. Thornton was born on May 9, 1921 in Herrin to John & Pearl (Vaughn) Thornton. He married Florene Reed on July 17, 1941 in Charleston, Mo. She survives of Marion.
G. L. Retired in 1982 from Norge Industries in Herrin where he worked as a quality control inspector for some 26 years. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists Union Local. He was of Pentecost faith being a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle in Marion.
He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and tinkering with old clocks.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Pastor John Barnett will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
