Herrin- HARM DALE HOVENGA, age 79, of Herrin, passed away at 4:30am on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at his home. Harm was born on October 11, 1928 in Butler County, Iowa, the son of Sweer and Nellie (Abbas) Hovenga. He married Marian Hinders in Clarksville, Iowa on December 6, 1950. Together, they shared fifty-seven years of marriage. She preceded him in death on January 9, 2008. Mr. Hovenga was a retired operating engineer for Diamonds Construction. Survivors include: Daughter- Elaine and Jerry Kenner of Herrin, IL Son- Stanley and Tamara Hovenga of Carterville, IL Daughter-In-Law- Lynola Hovenga of Herrin, IL Eight Grandchildren- Kelly and Kim Kranawetter of Jackson, MO Renee and David Ahrens of Crystal Lake, IL Greg Sims of Herrin, IL Tracy and David Galloway of Herrin, IL Christopher Hovenga of Herrin, IL Andrew and Teresa Hovenga of New Baden, IL Aaron Hovenga of Mascoutah, IL Adam Hovenga ofAlbers, IL Seven Great Grandchildren Two brothers- Bob Hovenga of Clarksville, Iowa Dale and Connie Hovenga of Clarksville, Iowa Three sisters- Evelyn Kramer of Clarksville, Iowa Lillian Hinders of Waterloo, Iowa Ruth and Paul Hinders of Clarksville, Iowa Two brothers-in-law- Jim Hinders of Clarksville, Iowa Paul and Ruth Hinders of Clarksville, Iowa Two sisters-in-law- Bernice Krull of Clarksville, Iowa Gladys Hoodjer of Clarksville, Iowa Several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife- Marian, one son- John Hovenga, two brothers and three sisters. Graveside services will be held at 3:00pm on Monday, May 19, 2008 at Herrin City Cemetery with Rev. Duane Faulkenberry officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with arrangements. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
