Harold Mays

Herrin- HAROLD MAYS, age 83, of Herrin, passed away at 1:45 am on Monday, April 4, 2011 at his home. Harold was born in Herrin on October 1, 1928, the son of William and Sophie Mays. He married Judy M. Switzer on November 7, 1952 in Herrin. She preceded him in death on August 24, 1993. Mr. Mays was a member of Hurricane Memorial Baptist and attended Hafer Baptist Church. Harold was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Survivors include his daughter- Janet and Robert Sanders of Herrin, IL Grandchildren- Adam Mays, Beth Ann Mays, Wanda Bangs, Misty and Adam Cargal, and Ryne Sanders Five great grandchildren- Brennan, Reese, Camden, Josh and Mia Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son- Kenneth Mays, five brothers- Claude, Valley, Howard, Everett and Tommy Mays and three sisters; Ethel Jeffrey, Helen Jeffrey and Violet Mays. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Thursday April 7, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Ralph Brandon will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery with military honors presented by Herrins American Legion and VFW Posts with assistance from the Illinois National Guard. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
