Wayne Griffin

May 6, 1930 — July 3, 2013

Herrin- WAYNE GRIFFIN, age 83, of Herrin, passed away at 5:30am on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Helia Healthcare of Benton. Wayne was born in Anna on May 6, 1930, the son of Charles and Mary (Ice) Griffin.  He had attended the Oasis Church in Marion and was the pianist in several gospel quartets over the years, among them the All American Quartet, the Dixie Four, and the Travelers.  Mr. Griffin was a retired grocery clerk and had also worked as a bus driver and as a driver for the Wonder Bread Company.  Wayne was a United States Army Veteran, having proudly served from 1951-1952. Survivors include his nephew- Robert W. and Jo Anna Oldani, Jr. of Scottsdale, AZ Niece- Marsha Jane and Larry Conley of Elkville Niece- Donna Jean and Jim Bonali of Marion Nephew- Jeff Griffin of Marion He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers- Charles and Donald Griffin, two sisters- Pansy Oldani and Gladys Eversman. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Gary Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy.  Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
