HARRY A. BUD OHMS, age 81, of Marion, passed away at 4:00am on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at his home in Marion. Harry was born in West Frankfort on December 11, 1930, the son of Harry and Beulah (Clarida) Ohms. He married Helen McCormick on April 17, 1953 and together, they have shared over 59 years of marriage. She survives in Marion. Bud was a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and did his graduate work at University of Illinois. Throughout his life, Harry held various management positions with GTE. After retiring in 1989, he returned to Marion where he became a member of various professional and social organizations. Bud served as a Mason for more than fifty years, earning him the honor of 32nd Degree Mason. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a decorated veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Ohms was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marion where he also served as Church Trustee. Survivors include his wife- Helen (McCormick) Ohms of Marion Three sons- Steve and Cindy Ohms of Rogers, MN Dan Ohms of Marion, IL Stan Ohms of Indianapolis, IN Grandchildren- Amber and Austin Ohms of Rogers, MN Kassie, Krystal, and Matthew Ohms of Indianapolis, IN Evan Ohms of Marion He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister- Mary Alice Ohms. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Dr. Bob Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be performed at graveside by the Marion VFW and American Legion Posts and the Illinois National Guard. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Masonic Rites will be performed at 7:00pm on Tuesday evening at the funeral home. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Marion First Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home; 800 N Market Street; Marion, IL 62959.
