Helen A. Jones

Herrin- Helen Jones, 93, of Herrin, passed away at 12:05 PM, Sunday, March 5, 2006 at her home in Herrin. Helen was born on April 15, 1912 in Herrin to Will O. & Emmalee (Stone) Adams. She married Billy Jones on May 16, 1936 in Monmouth, IL. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1981. Mrs. Jones was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught eight years at Sunnyside School, five years for rural schools in Union & Williamson Counties and twenty two years for Herrin Elementary. She received her Masters Degree from Southern Illinois University. Helen was active in the Williamson County Homemakers Club, Southern Illinois Teachers Association, Illinois Teachers Association, National Home Economics Administration and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, crocheting and her pets during her retirement years. One niece; Judith Ann (Barwick) Gann and husband Ralph of Lafayette, IN survives. Also surviving are several other nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and one sister. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Pastor Don Grammer will officiate. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 7-9:00 Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the funeral home.
