Herrin- Helen F. Nan Ashoff, 91, of Herrin, passed away at 2:19 am, Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Parkway Manor Nursing Center in Marion.
Helen was born on May 14, 1917 in Herrin to Andrew Sargeant & Carrie Amelia (Monroe) Sadler. She married Bob Ashoff in Arkansas on July 4, 1946. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1964.
Helen previously worked in California as part of the war effort and later at an airplane factory in St. Louis, MO, but retired in 1982 from Allen Industries in Herrin after twenty five years of service.
Helen was a protestant. She was a very active lady who mowed her own yard, bowled, and played pitcher in softball. She enjoyed racing go karts with her family in Gatlinburg and was so good at it that she had her own fan club which would cheer for her every lap. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter- Connie Sue Ashoff, brother- Paul Sadler, sister- Cecil Lee and two nephews- Butch & Rodney Lee.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Dr. Jerry Ford will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9:00pm, Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
