Helen Mae Atwood

Marion Helen Mae Atwood, 85, died Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 5:24 P.M. at Fountain Nursing Home. Helen was born July 13, 1922 to T.R. Ray & Lillian (Parks) Tanner in New Burnside. She married Lester Brooks Atwood on April 6, 1943 in Charleston, Missouri and together they shared over 59 years of marriage until his death on September 5, 2002. Helen was a homemaker. She was a member of White Ash Freewill Baptist Church and the Sunshine Circle. Survivors include: Son Dale Atwood and wife Vicky of Marion Daughter Elaine Atwood of Marion Two Grandchildren: Jody Wright of Marion Billy Atwood of Marion Sister-in-law Avis Atwood of Marion Preceded by Parents, Husband, Lester, Sister Wanda Rader, Four Brothers R.J. Tanner, Athel Tanner, Charles Tanner and Harold Bob Tanner. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at 10 A.M. at Rose Hill Cemetery. Everyone wishing to attend may gather at the grave site. Rev. Kenny Blumenstock and Ward Miller will officiate. There will be a visitation held on Tuesday evening from 5:00 8:00 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home The family would like to thank the staff at Fountains Nursing Home and Hospice of Southern Illinois for their care and compassion during the time Helen was in their care.
