Helen Van Eckhout

Herrin- Helen L. Van Eckhout, 89, of Herrin, passed away at 5:06 AM, Sunday, March 19, 2006 at her home. Helen was born on March 8, 1917 in Herrin to Clayton & Pearl (Hudgens) Scarlette. She married Roland E. Winnett in Herrin. He preceded her in death in 1969. Mrs. Van Eckhout was a retired school teacher, having taught at schools in Illinois and Indiana. She taught for a number of years at South Side in Herrin prior to her retirement. She then taught many years at area Christian Schools. She was an active member of the Southern Illinois Worship Center and a member of the SIU-C Alumnus Association. She enjoyed her church, cooking and entertaining her friends and family. SURVIVORS: Son & daughter in law- Bill & Mel Winnett- Herrin Step daughter & son in law- Patsy & Bill Wells- St. Louis, MO Seven Grandchildren Fourteen Great Grandchildren She will be sadly missed by her seven loving cats. She was preceded in death by her parents & husband, Roland. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Elvin Ervin will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM, Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at the funeral home.
