Henry Don Mitchell, 83, of Marion, passed away on October 30, 2002 at 3:45 P.M. at Marion Memorial Hospital.
Don was born On October 30, 1919 in Marion to Henry David and Ruth (Burns) Mitchell. They both preceded him in death. He married Mary Alene Juanita Johnson on August 19, 1939 in Cape Girardeau, MO, she survives.
Don retired from CIPS after 34 years as a Communications technician. Don was a beloved and devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, choir member and Sunday school teacher. He loved to read, work in his garden and was quite the handyman around the house. Don loved to travel in their camper with his wife until ill health didn?t allow it anymore. Together they traveled all over the United States and parts of Canada.
Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary, Son and daughter in law, Steven and Mary Mitchell of Tyrone, GA, daughter in law, Patricia Mitchell of Surfside Beach, SC, and daughter Joanna Mitchell of Marquette, MI., grandchildren, Ethan Mitchell, Joshua Mitchell, Megan Mercer, Geoffrey Mitchell, Jessica Mitchell, Rebecca Mitchell. Three great-grandchildren, Jacob Mitchell, Megan Mitchell, and Mithril Mitchell, sister and bother in law, Mary Alice and David Absher of Marion.
Don was preceded in death by a son, Richard, and a brother, Kenneth Mitchell.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2002 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2002 at the First Presbyterian Church at 3:00 P.M with the Rev. Dan Whitfield, Dr. Joe Van Roekle and Cindy Absher officiating. There will be one hour of visitation from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. at the church prior to the Memorial Service. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to the Gideon Society and envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home and the church.
