Marion Herman E. Bain, 87, passed away at Marion Memorial Hospital April 16, 2002 at 6:15 P.M. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes funeral home. Elder Gordon Lambert will officiate. Bernard Paul will deliver the eulogy. Visiting hours will be at the funeral home from 9-11 A.M. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Herman was born July 6, 1914 in Benton, IL to Orlie H. and Mable (Hartin) Bain. They both preceded him in death. He married Marguerite (Keith) Bain on July 9, 1937 in Franklin Co, IL. As a young man he began his working career as a service station attendant, then worked at his family?s restaurant. During WW II, he worked as a payroll clerk at Silas Mason Plant in the Ordill Area. Following WW II, he served as a payroll clerk and accountant for the Norge plant in Herrin, IL. Herman left Norge and owned and operated ?Bain?s Market?, a family neighborhood grocery store. He finished his working career as a Service Station Manager for several Liberty stations in the area, retiring in 1981. As a young adult he played baseball and softball in numerous church and community leagues. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and could relate all team statistics. A great cook, Herman lived to entertain the loves of his life--his children and grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Marion. He is survived by a son and daughter in-law: Keith E. and Donna L. (Broeking) Bain of Burke, VA ? Daughter Judith Lynn Strang of Marion ? Grandchildren: Mitch and Tatia Strang of Marion, Michael Strang and Fiance Zena Phillips of Marion, Michelle Lynn and Mark Roberts of Marion ? Kara Elisabeth Bain of New York City, NY ? Diana Kristine Bain of Burke, VA - Great Grandchildren - Zachary Michael Strang ? Jesse Dale Strang both of Marion ? Niece Virginia Lakemeyer of Chesterfield, MO ? Nephews Dick, Tom and David Giles all of Cape Girardeau, MO. 2 Sisters Virginia Dixon and Margaret Giles, his parents, preceded him. This obituary may be viewed at www.hughesfuneralhomes.com
