Herrin- Hester Mae Salvo, 82, of Herrin, passed away at 5:21 PM, Saturday, October 28, 2006 at The Fountains Care Center of Marion. Hester was born on October 29, 1924 in Clifford, IL to Joseph & Victoria (Gollihur) Brandon. She married Angelo Salvo on March 15, 1946 in Marion. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1987. Mrs. Salvo worked in the shipping department of Smoller Brothers in Herrin and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union # 499. She attended Covenant Christian Fellowship in Carterville and was a former member of Herrin First United Methodist Church. She was a good cook and enjoyed baking pies and making chicken and dumplings for her family and friends and relaxing with a good Danielle Steele novel. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. SURVIVORS: Daughter & son in law- Angela & John Smith- Herrin Three Grandchildren: Nicole Gusentine & husband Karl- Energy Amy Flowers & husband Stephen- Mulkeytown Brandy Meracle & husband Dan- Herrin Four Great Grandchildren: Brittney & Karli Gusentine- Energy Stevie Rae Williams- Herrin Mason Edward Marion Flowers- Mulkeytown Many nieces and nephews & great nieces and nephews Several cousins She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Vicki Salvo, & eight brothers and two sisters. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Ralph Brandon will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Memorial donations are suggested to the American Diabetes Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
