Homer J. Chancey

Marion- HOMER J CHANCEY, age 85, of Marion, passed away at 4:11pm on Friday, February 25, 2011 at the VA Community Living Center in Marion. Homer was born in Royalton on January 29, 1926 the son of Homer Ardel and Daisy Marie (Davie) Chancey. He married Beverly Crain in Crab Orchard on January 14, 1946. She preceded him in death on October 7, 2004. Mr. Chancey was a pipefitter for the VA in North Chicago. He was the recipient of a purple heart, having served in the US Marines during World War II. Homer was a member of the Marion VFW and the Lions Club in Horseshoe Bend, Ark. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed by all those that loved him. Survivors include three daughters- Rebecca Persman of Carterville, IL Dianna and Mac James of Horseshoe Bend, Ark Lisa Hanna of Winthrop Harbor, IL His loving Companion- Velda Bang of Marion, IL Five grandchildren- James and Linda Persman of Mt Vernon, IL Stacy Persman of Carterville, IL Matt James of Horseshoe Bend, Ark Jenna Hanna of Winthrop Harbor, IL Patrick Hanna of Winthrop Harbor, IL Four Great Grandchildren-Eric, Mike, and Jacob Persman of Mt Vernon, IL Emma James of Horseshoe Bend, Ark Brother-in-law- Bill Crain of Vienna, IL Nieces, Nephews, and friends He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, son-in-law- Terry Persman, sister and brother-in-law- Helen and Elmer Hulsey, and sister-in-law- Nettie Crain. Memorial services will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Military honors will be presented by Marions VFW and the National Guard. Visitation will be held from 1-3pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the VA Community Living Center in Marion.
