Howard E. (Gene) Crain

Herrin- Howard Eugene Gene Crain, 74, of Herrin, died at 9:30 AM, Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at Herrin Hospital. Mr. Crain was born on August 12, 1929 in Herrin to Joe & Edith (Ronsi) Crain; Sr. He married Donna D. Cox on June 23, 1956 in Carterville. She survives of Herrin. Gene retired in 1994, after thirty years of service, as Plant Operator of Old Ben #24 mine in Benton. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Army. Gene attended First United Methodist Church of Herrin. In his spare time, he enjoyed walking with his wife, working in his shed, and working on and collecting jukeboxes. Survivors: Wife- Donna Crain- Herrin Son- Dan Crain & fianc Paula Odom- Herrin Mother- Edith Crain- Herrin He was preceded in death by his father and brother; Joe Crain; Jr. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 4, 2003 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Lee Lovett will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Friday, October 3, 2003 at the funeral home.
