Marion Hugh Nelson Gilley, 83, passed away on Friday, June 02, 2006 at 10:15 A.M. at VA Medical Center in Marion.
Hugh was born February 4, 1923 in Marion to Otis and Ada (Kelton) Gilley. He married Eleanor F. Gilley in December, 1941 and she preceded him in death on March 16, 1989.
Hugh was known as the Local Garbologist whose business was always pickin up. He was a talented singer who published a record and a poet who published two books of poetry and would travel from church to church to share his faith in Christ with people. He was a member of Marion Second Baptist Church. He served as precinct committeeman and was a decorated WWII Army Veteran with 5 battle stars. He won the Bronze Star in the conflict. But most of all he was a very committed and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He made sure that each of his children had a college education and each of us wanted to please him with what we did in life.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 5, 2006 at 1 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with his son Brother David Gilley officiating, Dr. Bob Wagner will assist. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery with Military Rites performed by Marions VFW Post #1301 and American Legion Post #147. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
For those who prefer memorials may be given to the Second Baptist Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.
