Marion- Imogene Melton Hudgens, 89, of St Charles, MO, formerly of Marion, IL, died Friday November 26, 2004 at 7:45 pm at National Health Center in St Charles, MO. She was born June 15, 1915, one of the six children of Charles and Ora (Owens) Jent of Marion, IL. She married her high school sweetheart, Edward J. Melton in Ann Arbor, MI on November 18, 1945. The couple had no children, although they served as second parents to all their nieces and nephews. Edward preceded her in death on January 6, 1970. Imogene graduated from Marion High School and attended Southern Illinois Normal College (now SIUC). During WWII, she moved to Ann Arbor, MI where she was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone Company, where she worked for 23 years, retiring as a supervisor-trainer for long distance operators in 1967. After retirement, she returned to her residence on Cherry Street in Marion. Later, she resided at Parkway Estates in Marion before moving to St Charles, MO in the fall of 2003 to live with her niece, Ruth Ann Jent Scarborough and her husband, Dr Curt Scarborough.. Aunt Jean is survived by: 4 nieces- Ruth Ann Jent and Dr Curt Scarborough-St Charles, MO Roma Roberts- Virginia Doris June Bates-California Ann Bumpus- California 3 Nephews- Bill Connell-California Chuck Strange- Indiana Dean Strange- Indiana Brother-In-Law- William R Strange of Anderson, IN Preceded by: Parents Husband- Edward Melton 3 sisters- Elsie Connell, Norma Strange, Sarah Jent 2 Brothers- Harold Jent and Rev Floyd Jent Imogene was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marion, IL. She was a member of the LeRoy A. Chapter 358 of the Order of Eastern Star. Funeral Services will be Tuesday November 30, 2004 at 1:30 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with services conducted by Imogenes grand nephews Rev Keith Scarborough and Dr Earl Haskins. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Visition will be held from 11:00am until the time of service on Tuesday November 30th. Memorial donations may be made to the FreeWay Foundation (or Pillsbury College and Seminary), 3426 Bridgeland Dr, Bridgeton, MO 63044 and will also be accepted at the funeral home.
