Irene Childers

Marion- IRENE CHILDERS, age 93, of Marion, formerly of Murphysboro, passed away at 8:06 pm on Friday, November 26, 2010 at The Fountains Assisted Living Center of Troy. Irene was born in Herrin on September 25, 1917, the daughter of Marion and Stella (Cox) Kirk. She married W.W. Childers in Johnston City on July 30, 1939. They shared sixty-one years of marriage, until his passing on April 8, 2001. Mrs. Childers was a homemaker and ministers wife. She was a member of the Marion Second Baptist Church. Survivors include: Son- Phil Childers and wife Joanne Lenahen of Louisville, KY Daughter and Son-in-law- Brenda Kay and David Chaffee of Collinsville, IL Grandson- Matthew Childers of Louisville, KY Grandson- Todd Childers of Louisville, KY Grandson- David Childers of Louisville, KY Granddaughter- Laura DuFrenne of Red Bud, IL Sister- Almeda Sanders of Herrin, IL Brother- Paul Meredith Kirk of Columbus, IN Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband- the Rev. W.W. Childers, sister- Ellade Satterfield, and brother- Woodrow Kirk. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Jim Donahue officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be held from noon until 1pm on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
