J.W. "Corky" Hopper

Herrin- J.W. Corky Hopper, Jr., 82, of Herrin, passed away at 11:52 PM, Saturday, April 7, 2012 at his home in Herrin. Corky was born on June 18, 1929 in Herrin to William and Hepsa (Wright) Hopper. He married Joyce Jeannine Collard on February 25, 1948 in Piggott, AR. She preceded him in death on January 10, 1998. He retired from Maytag in 1996 and was the Inventory Control Manager. After retirement he worked at Bills Liquors. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Franklin County Country Club. He was a former bowler and liked following NASCAR. He will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him. Survivors include- Son- Phillip L. Hopper and wife Beth of Herrin Son- Miles L. Hopper and wife Brenda of Herrin Ten Grandchildren: Sarah Beth Gregory and husband Joshua Jerret Lee Hopper Billy Lyle Hopper Kenneth Hans Hopper Ramona Wieland and husband Brett Greg Houseworth and wife Mary Ann Adam Hopper and wife Melanie Johnathon Hopper Hannah Marie Hopper Dale Ray Houseworth Twenty six great grandchildren Several nieces, nephews and cousins He was preceded in death by his parents, son- William E. Hopper, two brothers- Miles and Leon Hopper and two sisters- Lois Ansinelli and Anita Verga. A graveside memorial service will held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Herrin City Cemetery. Pastor Dan Smith will officiate. Inurnment will follow. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the graveside. Memorial arrangements were made at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/201 S. 13th St./ Herrin, IL 62948.
