Carterville- Jack L. Cameron, 73, of Scott City, MO, formerly of Carterville, passed away at 6:40 a.m., Friday, January 1, 2010 at Monticello House in Jackson, MO.
Jack was born on June 7, 1936 in Carterville to Henry & Lillian Louise (Stearns) Cameron. He was formerly married to Jeanetta Malone.
Mr. Cameron was a retired boilermaker at U.S. Steel and a guard at Joliet Prison. He was of Pentecost faith and a veteran of the US Army. He was a former member of the Herrin Eagles, American Legion and the Scott City, MO Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing, cooking and doing yard work.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson- Travis Lee McRoy.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Luther Rhodes will officiate. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Energy with military rites performed at graveside by the Herrin VFW and American Legion Posts. Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
