Jacob Logan "Jake" Smith

Herrin- Jacob Logan Jake Smith, 17, of Herrin, died at 4:44 PM, Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at his fathers home in Herrin. Jake was born on November 8, 1994 in Carbondale to Ray Dale & Chesta (Doetch) Smith of Herrin. Jake was a student at Project Echo in Johnston City and worked various jobs whenever time allowed and he was able. He was athletic and enjoyed weight lifting and mixed martial arts and was a student of Tae Kwon Do at Master Emile Wrights in Herrin. He competed in several kickboxing tournaments and was undefeated in his class. His favorite athletes were UFC Athletes- Anderson Silva and Royce Gracie and Chicago Bears Running Back Matt Forte and Linebacker- Brian Urlacher. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, but most loved spending time with his girlfriend- Alacia Manning and his Boxer- Brutus. Survivors include- Mother- Chesta Smith and Companion Nick Johnson of Herrin Father- Dale Smith of Herrin Brother- Brandon Smith of Herrin Maternal grandparents- Cathy and Rick Reynolds of West Frankfort Best friend and girlfriend- Alacia Manning of Herrin Several aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him dearly Great Aunt- Mary Alice Smith of Herrin He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents- Carl and Phyllis Smith and his cousin- Eric Schneider. The funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Charles Jennings will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until time of service, Saturday, at the funeral home.
